Lil Wayne On The Covers Of RollingStone
Lil Wayne strikes a pose for his third Rolling Stone cover. The issue marks his first print interview since his release from jail last November. Below are a few excerpts. The mag hits newsstands January 21st.
On Gambling For Commisary:
“I’d bust a nigga’s ass at Uno,” he told writer Josh Eells. “We gamble for phone time. I’d take nigga’s commissary: Lemme get them cookies, lemme get them chips, get that soup.”
On LeBron James and Dwayne Wade
When Wayne sat court-side at a recent Miami Heat/New Orleans Hornets game he was upset that Lebron James and Dwayne Wade never came over to talk to him. “Them niggas never speak to a nigga,” he says. “They don’t chuck me the deuce or nothing. Nigga spent all that money on them fucking tickets… Come holla at me. We sit right by them little bitch-ass niggas. At least come ask me why I’m not rooting for you.”
On Solitary Confidment
He spent his final month in jail in solitary after he was caught with an iPod charger in his cell. It could have been worse: He also had a watch with an MP3 player on it, but another inmate took the rap. “He was a solid nigga,” says Wayne. “Shout-out to Charles…Solitary was the worst. No TV. No radio. No commissary. Basically you’re in there 23 hours a day.” The only upside was he had a window where he could watch cars go by. “I used to sit at that motherfucker all day,” he says.
New Reading Material
In prison he read biographies of Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Marvin Gaye, Joan Jett, Vince Lombardi and Anthony Kiedis. “[Kiedis'] Scar Tissue was really good,” he says. “I also read the Bible for the first time. It was deep! I liked the parts where some character was once this, but he ended up being that. Like he’d be dissing Jesus, and then he ends up being a saint. That was cool.”
Diddy Covers The Source (Feb/March 2011)
Diddy returns to the cover of The Source. Issue hits newsstands January 25th. Below is an excerpt from the feature.
Source: What’s your assessment of President Obama thus far?
Diddy: “I love the president like most of us. I just want the president to do better. There’s a difference between us voting for somebody and us believing in somebody. He’s the person that we believed in so I pray night and day that he understands how God ordained his presidency. I feel there was a promise made to God to look after people that was less fortunate, and [many] of those people are African-American…”
Raekwon Talks About Working With Nas
In a recent interview with XXL, Raekwon reveals that while he was performing overseas he ran into Nas and had a sit down which finally led to the two of them reuniting. on The Chef’s upcoming album, Shaolin Vs. Wu-Tang.
“It definitely sounds like vintage Rae and Nas again, I [saw] Nas across seas, we had a show together, and we talked about a lot of things. We went from A-Z how we felt about things what was goin on at the time, and by the grace of God we was able to get this thing happenin’ again. That was definitely one of the surprise things that I wanted to alert the fans with, just to let em know that my brother came up to air for me and I know through his busy schedule I guess in the back of his mind he was like ‘Yo I gotta come up for Rae.’”
Tattoo Artist Speaks On Gucci Mane Ink
The man behind the ink, Shane Willoughby spoke with VIBE to discuss the procedure. According to Shane, the rapper was completely sober.
I was [hesitant] like ‘Are you sure you want to put that much [ink] in that area? He came straight to the counter and that’s where he pointed. I won’t tattoo anybody if their [drunk] or high because I can’t stand the smell of weed… [Gucci] seemed completely sober. He knew what he was doing. When [Gucci] said he wanted to do the ice cream thing I said ‘Well why don’t we do it somewhere else?’ But he was like I don’t have anywhere else. He said ‘I want something rock ‘n roll.’ There’s nothing more rock ‘n roll then lightening bolts.. I don’t think I’ll ever do [that] again… no matter how successful [the celebrity]. He was stoked. Had no regrets… was jumping up and down. That’s the way he rolls.”
Rick Ross Wants To Sign Wale And Meek Mill
This past weekend, Wale took to his Twitter and hinted at joining Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group. Rozay tells The Source, he’s been in talks with not only him, but Meek Mill as well.
“I look for next year to be an even bigger year,” Ross said a couple of weeks back in New York, fresh from his source cover shoot. “We just brought Jah Cure to the team. That’s one of the biggest reggae superstars in the game. We just did a deal with that. Look for that first quarter. I’m talking to artist out of Philly that I think is the future of Philly. Meek Millz, I’m talking to him right now about Maybach Music. As well as I’m talking to Wale.”
The Miami Mayor says Wale impresses him with not just his music acumen, but with his grind as well.
“Wale is a hustler. I feel he’s one record away from being the next nigga,” The Husky Don forecasted. “He’s just a naturally fly nigga. Slick talking nigga. That’s right up my alley. I just think that comradery, riding with Rozay, it’ll mean that much more. I feel he’s one record away. As well as Meek Millz.”
Should the signings go through, Ross says he’s definitely going to be helping both MCs with the musical direction on their upcoming LPs. He “most definitely” wants to be hands on.
